Generator failures aren’t always mechanical. The most common cause of a generator not starting, not holding voltage, or not transferring load is an electronic fault; AVR, AMF panel, engine controller, or a sensor the system is trusting with the wrong data. We diagnose and repair generator control electronics, fast.
THE SITUATION
If any of these match your situation, the fault is very likely electronic. Generator control electronics, the AVR, the control module, the AMF board, the engine ECU are the most common failure point in otherwise mechanically sound generators.
We diagnose them accurately, repair them at the component level, and get your generator back to reliable standby or prime power operation.
GENERATOR ELECTRONICS WE SERVICE
The AVR controls the output voltage of the generator by managing field excitation. A failed AVR means no voltage output, wrong voltage, or unstable voltage that damages the loads it’s meant to protect. We repair AVRs at the component level, including analogue and digital types.
Supported: Stamford, Leroy Somer, Mecc Alte, Markon, Basler Electric, Caterpillar, Cummins, FG Wilson
The generator control module monitors and manages everything; engine start sequence, protection thresholds, output metering, communication, and alarms. When it fails, the generator becomes either uncontrolled or completely non-functional.
Supported: ComAp InteliGen / InteliLite · Deep Sea Electronics (DSE) · Woodward · Comap · Stamford · Deif · Kohler · Cummins SCADA
The AMF panel is the system that detects mains failure and switches your facility to generator power automatically. An AMF electronics fault means your generator either won’t start when mains fail, or won’t transfer load correctly.
Engine management electronics control fuel delivery, speed governing, and protection thresholds. Governor failures cause over-speed, hunting (speed oscillation), or fail to maintain set frequency under load.
If the generator’s starting battery isn’t being maintained correctly, the generator will fail to start when needed most. We repair the trickle charger boards, charging circuit electronics, and starting control systems.
For multiple generator installations, synchronisation and load-sharing electronics ensure generators run together correctly. Faults in synchronisation electronics cause generators to fight each other or fail to share load properly.
COMMON CAUSES
Many of these failure modes are preventable with periodic electronic inspection. We carry out preventive diagnostic checks on generator control electronics, identify deteriorating components before they fail, and save you an emergency repair at the worst possible moment.

OUR PROCESS
You describe the fault; symptoms, what happened before it failed, any alarms showing.
We receive the control module, AVR, or AMF board, or attend site if removal isn’t practical.
Full component-level diagnostic: visual, instrument-based, functional testing.
Written fault report with cause, repair scope, and quotation.
Component-level repair. No guessing, no unnecessary replacements.
Full functional test: start sequence, voltage output, load simulation where applicable.
Return with documentation. Recommissioning support available.
FAQS
Usually, yes but not always. It could be the AMF board, the battery, the starting circuit, or a fault in the engine control loop. We diagnose the full starting and transfer sequence to find the actual cause.
This is a very common AMF/controller fault. The engine and alternator may be perfectly healthy, but the automatic control electronics have a fault. We diagnose and fix exactly this scenario regularly.
Yes. AVR repair, including for older and orphaned generator brands, is one of our specialisms. We source components and reverse-engineer where necessary.
Yes. On-site diagnostic visits are available for generators where the panel cannot be easily removed, or where the fault is best assessed with the generator running.
Very. A generator that hasn’t been electronically inspected in 3–5 years may have deteriorating capacitors, corroding connections, or aging sensors that haven’t caused a fault yet, but will. The worst time to discover this is during a power cut.
CONCLUSION
Tell us what your generator is doing or not doing. We’ll diagnose the electronics accurately and restore reliable operation.
